Lay Ministries revived. It’s time to revive some lay ministries and this week is ushers. Ushers play a very important role in greeting us as we arrive at church, and this is especially important for newcomers. The usher is the first person a visitor meets. The role of the usher is: 1) to greet people as they arrive, 2) hand out bulletins and books needed for the service, 3) ask newcomers to fill in a yellow card, 4) either take up the collection or ask someone to do it, 5) stay on duty to greet any late comers, 6) and keep an eye out for security.
Other lay ministries for the coming weeks are:
Altar Guild, Keeping track of visitors and recording information, expanding our communications (web, FaceBook, etc.), more live music. The Annual Meeting is Sunday, January 28 beginning at 10:40 (right after a shortened 10 am mass in English) and ending at 12:10pm (right before the 12 o’clock Santa Misa. If you want to nominate someone for the three positions open on the Vestry, or for Junior Warden, use the blue sheets and give them to Fr. Jim. Nominations will be used at the Nominating Committee’s meeting. To serve on the Vestry, one needs to be an active member of the congregation for no less than one year, a regular financial contributor to the church, and prepared to take an active leadership role in a designated area of parish life. Nominations will be announced by next Sunday (January 21.)

News & Notes
A Word About the Boiler. As you can feel by the temperature, we have a temporary boiler located outside the church alongside the cemetery. In the meantime, your church leaders are working daily on a contract for either repairs of the current boiler or a new boiler. This is a long and careful process, since it involves thousands of dollars. We have established a boiler fund and ask you to think about a generous gift. This is a gift where you can feel the difference.
Warming Center. A City of New York sponsored warming center is now located at Intercession. Our Bishop has asked all congregations to find ways to respond to the large number of refugees arriving in New York. We are called to give them Christian hospitality. The City program comes fully funded with on-sight managers, intake workers, security guards and custodian. This is not a shelter with beds, but simply a place to get off the streets and be warm.
